While there has been significant progress in including people from diverse backgrounds in STEM disciplines, there is still plenty of room for improvement.  Social scientists have demonstrated that students are more engaged and more likely to view themselves as potentially succeeding in STEM if they see and hear the stories of people with similar backgrounds.

As part of my National Science Foundation funding, I've been collaborating with videographer Brian Comfort to creat videos in which different people share their stories.  Every subject has at least two clips: one in which he or she describes research findings, and another in which they share their personal story of how they came to be scientists.  

Soon we will be inviting others to upload their own stories.  For now, please watch a few example videos:
